While stuck at home with the flu in 1979, the day Three Mile Island was in the news, I was glued to the radio and knew, from that day on, this was my calling.
June 1983 – My first radio gig, running the equipment on Sunday mornings, racking up one religious show after another at my hometown station in Lock Haven… aka “God Squad Captain!” My grandfather was a founding trustee of the former Lock Haven Broadcasting Corporation in the 1940s so I’m thinking getting into radio was my calling, even before I was born! When the FM station down the hall changed format in 1986, it was my first shot to play rock and roll on the radio.
1990 – Turned into a vampire for a couple years doing overnights in Williamsport at the former 103.9 WHOT. Eventually, I saw the light again, literally, and moved up to afternoons.
Spring 1995 – Swung down to Sunbury. Multiple shifts on multiple stations everyday plus a wonderful opportunity to produce a one of the best locally-created sports talk shows that could easily match or surpass for quality and content!
2003 – As they say, times change…people come and go (went to do some newspaper advertising for a “cup of coffee” ….. too much ink for my liking …. another story for another time).
2020’s – I’m back in Williamsport and it’s been a pleasure to be part of the Backyard Broadcasting family! After spending time in the middays on WILQ for over three years, now you can join me at Carey’s Corner, the Q’s first new morning show in over two decades, weekdays from 5 to 10AM!
