MAN MAKING VIDEOS CHARGED WITH TRESSPASSING

A man from Mill Hall is facing possible charges after police say he was seen trespassing on land in Clinton County and the owners called police.  According to North Central PA dot com, 45 year old Steven Eoute was confronted by the couple while he sat in his truck with his wife allegedly making adult content TikTok videos.  He then fired multiple shots from a handgun after he was asked to leave the wooded area in Bald Eagle Township.  Police have charged Eoute with reckless endangerment with more charges potentially pending. 

MAN CHARGED WITH CRUELTY TO ANIMALS

The incarcerated suspect who allegedly shot a man several times November 8^th at a home on Wither Hollow Road in Woodward Township, is facing additional charges of animal cruelty for shooting another man’s dog while it was in his care.  According to the Sun Gazette, Tyler Scott Whyte shot and killed Shawn Reid’s dog, just before Shawn Shipton, who was on the property to repair a vehicle, was shot and wounded.  Whyte now faces felony aggravated cruelty to animal charges and was recently recommitted to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of an additional 15 thousand dollars bail.  Whyte had been jailed without bail since last November for attempted homicide and related offenses.  Shipton is recovering from his injuries. 

GRANT FOR MONTGOMERY WATER INFRASTRUCTURE

About 800 customers in Montgomery Borough will benefit from almost one million dollars in grant money meant to upgrade the water line infrastructure.  According to the Sun  Gazette, State Representative Jamie Flick announced the funding made available through the Local Share Account Statewide program.  The upgrade will ensure that residents and emergency responders have access to reliable water service.  Montgomery Water Authority officials said the grant money will help replace infrastructure of a large part of Wagner Avenue and Broad Street.

FARM SHOW STARTS SATURDAY

The 109^th Farm Show starts tomorrow in Harrisburg, but there is a food-court preview available starting at noon today until 9pm.  According to the farmshow.pa.gov website, the PA Preferred reception takes place this afternoon for farm show producers and Ag supporters and opening ceremonies will be broadcast live on social media tomorrow morning at 10am from the Main Hall.  Admission is free to the PA Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg, but parking is $15, and may be paid by credit card, at all Farm Show Complex-operated lots.

SHAMOKIN MAN ARRESTED FOR STRANGULATION

A man from Shamokin was taken into custody after police say he strangled his girlfriend for saying he drinks too much.  According to Shamokin Police witnesses called them December 14^th after 50 year old Tracy Sperlbaum was seen choking the victim several times, once until she turned blue.  Sperlbaum had a small cut on his arm and said the victim used a knife to cut him, but police didn’t find a weapon.  He was charged with a felony count of strangulation, misdemeanor simple assault, and summary harassment with set bail at $5,000.

DEWART MAN BREAKS INTO WOMAN’S HOME

A man from Dewart was facing charges after he forcefully broke into a woman’s home in West Chillisquaque Township, stole a 5 dollar glass pig and left the property.  According to North Central PA dot com, 46 year old Paul McClintock kicked in the victim’s front door November 17^th and shoved the woman into a wall before he stole the pig and fled.  Most charges were withdrawn against McClintock, who police say has a long criminal history.  He did plead guilty to a summary harassment charge in December 11^th.

GUTTER WORK IN MIFFLINBURG NEXT WEEK

Work to install gutters is expected in Mifflinburg next week and there will be road restrictions as a result.  According to PennDOT, a contractor will be installing gutters this coming Wednesday on a property along Chestnut Street  which is Route 45 between Fifth and Sixth Streets in Mifflinburg Borough.  Work is expected to take place between 9am  and 11am with flaggers in place weather permitting.

FARM SHOW BUTTER SCULPTURE UNVEILED

The 2025 Butter sculpture at the 109th annual Pennsylvania Farm Show was unveiled last night and features a dairy cow set against a Pennsylvania farm backdrop, with a vibrant cityscape nestled in the distance. The latest sculpture was presented by the American Dairy Association North East and Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The sculpture will be on display in the Main Hall of the Pennsylvania Farm Show through January 11^th, after which the butter will be recycled at Reinford Farms in Juniata County.

LYCO CORONER RELEASES SCI MUNCY INMATE CAUSE OF DEATH

A woman from NJ who was serving a sentence for a 3^rd degree murder conviction was found dead in her prison cell Sunday at SCI Muncy.  According to Penn Live, Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. ruled that 41 year old Lisa Marie Stavish died by asphyxiation due to hanging at 6:07am.  It was three days after she was recommitted to the State Correction Institution at Muncy for allegedly violating her parole.  Stavish had been convicted of murder in 2005, she admitted to injecting a man with a fatal mix of cocaine and bleach and burying his remains. 

MAXIMUM SENTENCE FOR DUI FELON

A Columbia Crossroads man has been given the maximum penalty, 10 to 20 years in state prison, for being found guilty of killing a Towanda man while DUI in July.  According to North Central PA dot com, 39 year old Charles Fred Scott was already facing a DUI charge last summer when he struck and killed 39 year old Travis Delamater who was putting his child in a car seat just a few yards from the  local bar where Scott had been drinking.    Delamater’s wife and child sustained minor injuries.  Scott’s charges include DUI homicide, reckless endangerment, and two other separate DUI charges.

PENNDOT CLOSED FOR SEVERAL HOLIDAY DAYS

PennDOT has announced that all driver license and photo centers in the state, including the full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed tomorrow for Christmas as well as be closed next Wednesday January 1, 2025, in observance of the New Year’s holiday.  Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services, including  a complete listing of PennDOT driver and photo license center closings in 2025.

ARW TO SERVE DRIVE THRU CHRISTMAS DINNER

The American Rescue Workers’ annual Christmas Distribution served 1,200 families last Friday. The event is designed to address the need of families in the region who are struggling with food insecurity. In addition, the American Rescue Workers are offering a drive-thru on Christmas Day between 11am and 2pm where anyone can pick up a hot meal to-go.

MAN JAILED AFTER TRAFFIC STOP FOR WARRANTS

A 59 year old man from Lock Haven has been jailed for outstanding warrants after he was stopped for a traffic violation December 7^th and Woodward Township police discovered his record. He was found to have two 10-year-old outstanding criminal warrants from Centre County.  According to the Daily Item, 59 year old Larry Halterman who is classified as an habitual offender due to several prior DUI convictions, was driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle with a revoked and suspended license since 1998.  He faces new charges.  The owner of the vehicle he driving will also be cited for allowing Halterman to drive the unregistered car without insurance.

THIEF STEALS MONEY FROM LOGANTON DINER

A thief broke into a diner in Loganton and made off with almost 4 thousand dollars earlier this month.  According to North Central pa dot com, police say an unknown suspect broke a window of the Twilight Diner in Loganton and then used a grinder to cut open a safe and took the cash.  Authorities say the suspect was wearing a white Tyvek style suit and fled the scene in what some said was possibly a light-colored, Chrysler/dodge.  State policed at Lamar ask anyone with information about the burglary or the suspect to call the barracks, 570-726-6000.

FLORIDA MAN STEALS IDENTITY FROM SUNBURY VICTIM

A man from Florida stole the identity of a man from Sunbury and used a fake ID to withdraw money from the victim’s account in November.  According to North Central PA dot com, 56 year old Nathaniel McBride successfully withdrew over 19 hundred dollars from a credit union in Upper Augusta Township in Sunbury by answering all the security questions for the account and signing the receipt forging the victim’s name.  The man was caught in Delaware a few days later for the same crime. McBride was charged with a felony count of forgery, misdemeanor counts of theft, receiving stolen property, and identity theft and has a preliminary hearing January 7^th.

CHRISTMAS EVENT AT UNION COUNTY LIBRARY TODAY

The Union County Public library will have a program today featuring Christmas traditions from around the world with their  Holiday Yule Festival.  Accordin got the Daily Item, children can enjoy learning about the magic of different holidays and festivals that happen worldwide including Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and Diwali.  The program for elementray aged children begins at 11 a.m. until noon at the library on Reitz Boulevard.  The drop in event  is free and open to the public. FATAL ACCIDENT AT LYCO-NORRY LINE

There was a fatal accident yesterday afternoon on Route 405 at the Lycoming-Northumberland County line.  According to the Sun Gazette, state police say the one car accident occurred about 2:45pm when the male driver from the Shamokin area, who was not wearing a seatbelt, veered off the road and went through a yard before going over an embankment and landing on the car’s roof.  After emergency responders arrived, they recovered the victim who had been partially ejected from the car and took him to the Forensic Center at UPMC Williamsport.  The Lycoming County Coroner, Charles E. Kiessling Jr, was on the scene and said they are seeking to notify family members of the victim before they release the man’s identity.  Montgomery, Clinton Township, Warrior Run Area and Muncy Area also responded to the crash scene.

TWO ARRESTED FOR ID THEFT IN SELINSGROVE

Two people from Allentown are accused of using a stolen credit card in Selinsgrove to purchase 5 thousand dollars worth of hot water heaters, copper wire and flooring from the local Lowe’s store in November.  According to the Daily Item, Luis Bueno and Berenice Lantigua were seen on surveillance video making purchases and then again a few days later at another Lowes in Carbon County where they were confronted by loss prevention officers.  Both are jailed and charged with theft by deception and identity theft.

STATE FUNDING FOR RAIL IMPROVEMENTS IN PA

PennDOT has announced 55 million dollars in funding for 30 rail freight improvement projects statewide.  According to a press release, rail projects in Northumberland and Schuylkill counties are receiving funds. North Shore Railroad will receive $1.8 million to rehabilitate its mainline, and Clark’s Feed Mills will get $2.5 million to expand railcar storage and construct unloading equipment.  In addition, over 600 thousand dollars are for rail projects in Schuylkill County.  The funds are set to enhance infrastructure, support local economies, and improve connections across Pennsylvania’s rail network.

BEAR HARVEST NUMBERS

The Pennsylvania Game Commission’s revealed their preliminary bear harvest information  on their data webpage this week.  Hunters in the Commonwealth took more than 2,600 black bears this fall.  The heaviest bear this year weighed 774 pounds and was harvested by Scott Price of Madison Township, Lackawanna County, while hunting in Monroe County. Bear totals per county include 161 in Tioga, 156 in Clinton, 148 in Lycoming, 131 in Bradford and 108 in Potter.

TEN YEAR OLD MISSING IN SUNBURY SAFELY FOUND

A 10-year-old boy who was reported missing has been found in Sunbury. The Daily Item reports the boy left his home on North 11th Street in Sunbury on Thursday night and police were searching for him early this morning. Emergency dispatchers say the boy has been located. Sunbury police were assisted by several police departments in that search.

FLORIDA TRUCK DRIVER DIES IN I-80 CRASH

A truck driver from Florida died in a crash on I-80 in Clinton County December 14^th.  According to North Central PA dot com, 54 year old Lloyd Petri was traveling west on the interstate when his truck struck the crash cushion of the guide rail at mile marker 192 in Greene Township.  About 30 years of the rail were destroyed by the truck as it continued along the interstate about 30 feet and came to a stop aftert overturning on the median.  Petri sustained fatal injuries in the crash and EMS crews who responded to the scene were rendered unnecessary.

TRIAL CONTINUED FOR MAN WHO STOLE DATA FROM GEISINGER

A man who was indicted for illegally accessing personal data of 1.28 million Geisinger patients last January had his trial continued by Chief U.S. District Judge Matthew Brann.  According to the News Item, Max Vance, also known as Andre J. Burk, also has arrest warrants and a restraining order issued against him in South Carolina, and police say he previously had possession of a ghost gun, numerous fake IDs and a machine to make them.  Geisinger said no insurance information, credit card or bank account numbers, or Social Security numbers were inappropriately accessed by Vance, however, the hospital system, along with another defendant, are being sued in a class action suit as a result of the breach of other forms of personal data.

FREE CONCEALED CARRY COURSE IN DANVILLE

There will be a firearms safety and concealed carry seminar next week in Danville hosted by the Montour County Sheriff’s Office.  According to the Daily Item, the event is open to the public, not just Montour County residents and is free to attend.  Topics discussed will include carrying, storage, proper holster choices and more.  The seminar will be held at 5:30pm December 27^th  in conference room B at the Montour County Administration Center on East  Front Street in Danville.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER THREATENING ROOMATES, POLICE

A Selinsgrove man was taken into custody after he threatened his female roommates with a gun and then also threatened and additionally refused to follow orders from state troopers who arrived in response of the disturbance.  According to North Central PA dot com, 68 year old John Dennison Walter Jr. struggled with police who arrived to the Penn Township Home about 7pm on December 7^th who were asking him to give up control of the firearm that he  held concealed in his hand.  State police say they gave Walter 52 verbal commands before they were able to remove the handgun from the man’s grip. No one was injured.  Walter was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault, misdemeanors of terroristic threats, and resisting arrest, his preliminary hearing was scheduled for today.  He is jailed in lieu of 50 thousand dollars bail.

THIEF OF CASH BACK LEFT BEHIND ARRESTED

A man from Milton who took cash from a self check out register accidentally left behind by a customer, has been charged with theft and receiving stolen property.  According to state police, 59 year old Robert M. Byrne Jr took the cash after the victim rang up her items at the Lewisburg Wal-mart and left the self-checkout kiosk without taking her money, police say during the investigation, Byrne was later observed on surveillance cameras taking the money and putting it in his pocket.  Police identified Byrne by his vehicle information and located him parked nearby.  Milton Troopers filed the charges against Byrne.

PUBLIC FEEDBACK NEEDED TO HELP SAVE HELLBENDER

The public is being asked to participate in a public comment about a proposal that the eastern hellbender, a unique salamander, be placed on the endangered species list.  According to the Sun Gazette, data collected by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service shows that a large portion of the eastern hellbender population is in decline and as an endangered subspecies, would be protected under federal mandates. Hellbenders are the largest of North America’s salamanders, growing up to 29 inches. They can live up to 30 years and spend their entire lives in water and are key indicators of stream and river health.  Go to regulations dot gov (and search docket number FWS-R3-ES-2024-0152) for instructions on how to submit comments.

MOUNT CARMEL CHRISTMAS EVENT SATURDAY

Businesses and area residents in the borough of Mount Carmel will “Light up Oak Street”, and celebrate the Christmas holiday Saturday 5 to 8pm.  According to the News Item, there will be music and entertainment, and attendees can shop at downtown businesses and also decorate holiday ornaments at the Mount Carmel Public Library until 7pm, and hang the completed ornaments on a large Christmas tree outside Tornado Tavern, along with other activities. Organizers say this is a chance to bring the entire community together.

REPEAT SHOPLIFTER ARRESTED AGAIN

A repeat shoplifter has been charged again, this time eluding loss prevention officers at the Williamsport Wegmans for a fourth time and escaping the store before city police arrived.  According to North Central PA dot com, Michelle Lynn Wettlaufer of Muncy was detained  after she attempted to leave the store by the side exit with unscanned items November 30th.  Officials say Wettlaufer allegedly admitted taking of items worth 37 dollars, but gave other false information before running from the office area where she was being questioned.  She remains at large and a warrant has been issued for her arrest. 

NON-CREDIBLE BOMB THREAT IN BELLFONTE

A Bellefonte office building in Centre County received a non-credible bomb threat last Tuesday and the facility was temporarily evacuated out of an abundance of caution.  According to the Lock Haven Express, police investigated at the Willowbank Building that evening after a threat came in via email.  They then cleared the scene and said there were no credible threats by 8:20pm.  The building houses the Centre County Elections Office, and police say the office and ballots were under constant supervision while the building was swept.

PRISON ESCAPEE IN CUSTODY AGAIN

A former Hagerstown, Maryland man was apprehended in November after being on the run from an escape from a Pennsylvania prison for a month.  According to North Central PA dot com, 35 year old Matthew Lee Miles had been held at the Capital Pavilion Residential Reentry Center in Dauphin County and escaped custody October 15^th.  Miles was found November 25^th and was indicted last week by a federal grand jury on escape charges.  For the escape, Miles could receive an additional five years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.

SNOWMOBILE CLASS FOR YOUTH IN JANUARY

An all-day safety course hosted by the Hyner Mountain Snowmobile Club will be held in Lock Haven coming up January 4^th.  According to North Central PA dot com, parents and children can attend the day of the event and sign in before the 8am class that is held at the Hyner Mountain Snowmobile Club lodge, which is located approximately 6 miles north of Haneyville, PA in Clinton County.  The class is free with lunch provided. TEEN CHARGED AS AN ADULT IN FATAL ACCIDENT CASE

A 17 year old from Reading, PA will be tried as an adult for the accident in Upper Fairfield Township that killed a 65-year old woman and injured her husband a few miles from their Montoursville home last July.  According to the Sun Gazette, police say Stephen Andrew Yuhasz was driving a 2011 Jeep Grand-Cherokee with a passenger, southbound along Route 87 and attempted to pass another southbound vehicle. He entered the northbound lane, causing the collision with Mark and Kathleen McFadden in a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze.  Police say Kathleen was killed instantly; Mark was transported to UPMC Williamsport with serious injuries. Yuhasz faces a host of charges including 3^rd degree murder, aggravated assault by vehicle, speeding and more.  He is free on a 25 thousand dollar bond and has a preliminary hearing January 13^th.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO METH ARREST

Two people were found to have a large amount of methamphetamine after police searched their vehicle following a traffic stop in Shamokin.  According to North Central PA dot com, 54 year old Ricardo Pasarell of Mount Carmel was pulled over November 3^rd for an expired temporary registration with passenger, 24 year old Gabrielle Eby of Coal Township, and police noticed the smell of marijuana.  Officers towed the car after questioning both occupants and discovered Pasarell and Eby to both have drugs on their person and after a search warrant was issued, found 53 grams of meth under the seat.  Both face drug charges in Northumberland county court and have separate preliminary hearings.

FCFP GIVES GRANT TO UNION COUNTY NON-PROFIT

The Giving Closet in Union County received a grant from the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania’s Greater Susquehanna Valley Competitive Grant Program that will be used to purchase clothing for children in need.  According to the Daily Item, the non-profit is located at 18 Market St., Lewisburg and will utilize the 5 thousand dollar gift to ensure that the children they serve have access to warm, comfortable, and properly fitting clothing, shoes, and boots.  Recipients of the clothing are families who are enrolled in the Union County Supplemental Food Program.

CHORAL CONCERT IN SUNBURY

The annual Candlelight Concert by the Susquehanna Valley Chorale is Saturday and Sunday at the Zion Lutheran Church on South 5th Street in Sunbury, with a program to focus on love and the idea of human connection.  According to the Daily Item, the presentation will feature the world premiere of a new composition, “So Many Hopes,” by the group’s conductor and music director William Payn. Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for students and children 12 and younger are free. Go to svcmusic.org for tickets and information.

INFANT INJURED IN DOMESTIC FIGHT

A nine month old child sustained minor injuries during a fight between her parents in Williamsport, and they are both now facing child endangerment charges.  According to North Central PA dot com, police say 22 year old Joyce Ganaway and 24 year old Iyonna Eddins, got into a fight over a phone call while Ganaway held the baby in her left arm.  Eddins fled the scene before the injury was discovered on the child.  Police were then called to the 600 block of Third Avenue by a neighbor who heard the disturbance. The couple is free after both posting 25 thousand dollar bail with a preliminary hearing December 12th. 

THIRD SHOPLIFTING CHARGE FOR MONTOURSVILLE WOMAN

It’s a three-peat for a Montoursville woman who was caught shoplifting from the self-checkout line October 9^th from the Walmart in Montoursville.  According to Montoursville Borough Police, Phyllis Marie Wettlaufer of Muncy Valley already has a second case for retail theft open in Lycoming County, but was arrested a third time at Wal-mart after store officials discovered the theft of items worth about 9 dollars.  Wettlaufer is free on $5,000 unsecured bail and has a preliminary hearing December 23^rd.

EITC GRANT FOR THE CAC

The community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport, an historic venue and the largest cultural facility in northcentral Pennsylvania, has announced a donation from Journey Bank, through the Education Improvement Tax Credit program or EITC.  According to a press release, funding for the educational programs is derived from various sources, including individual donations, corporate sponsorships, and grants.  Jeff Arnold, Senior Executive Vice President of Journey Bank said the Community Arts Center aligns with their mission to support youth development, and advocate for the importance of music and the arts in our schools and communities. The Community Arts Center is owned and operated by Pennsylvania College of Technology.

PSU FOOTBALL ON THE BIG SCREEN AT THE DISTRICT

The District Cinema in Muncy will show the college football playoff between Penn State and SMU on the movie theater screen Saturday afternoon, December 21^st.  According to North Central pa dot com, in a partnership with TNT Sports and Theater Sports Network the game will be shown locally as an immersive experience for 15 dollars per ticket.  Reserve your spot and purchase tickets online at thedistrict.dipsontheatres.com.  ESPN extended its theatrical distribution agreement with Theater Sports Network to televise some college football playoff games in certain venues, including the College Football Playoff National Championship.
