WYALUSING WOMAN SENTENCED FOR THEFT OF FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDS
A woman from Wyalusing who was charged with unlawful taking and related offenses for stealing from the Franklin Township Fire Department and from an elderly couple in 20021 has been sentenced to 6-23 months in the Bradford County Correctional Facility. According to North Central PA dot com, court records say while 42 year old Patricia Susan Tuttle was employed as the secretary and treasurer of the fire company, she stole in excess of $75,000 through fraudulent PayPal transactions and ATM withdrawals. In a probation agreement to repay the funds, Tuttle misrepresented her circumstances to an elderly couple who lent her 78 thousand dollars that she used to repay the fire company, but didn’t repay the couple, before they called police about the scam. Following her incarceration, Tuttle will also serve five years of probation for the theft.
DRIVER FLEES FROM VIA BELLA ACCIDENT
Police searched for a woman who fled from a car accident along Via Bella and Heburn Thursday afternoon. According to the Sun Gazett, a driver at the intersection at about 12:30pm saw the 2013 Dodge Durango head through Via Bella westbound and go up an embankment before it rolled onto its roof. The unnamed witness opened the door for the crash victim, who got out of the car saying they had to look for their friend and left the scene. City firefighters responded to the accident, where there were no other victims or injuries reported.
LIHEAP DEADLINE EXTENDED
The deadline has been extended for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program for two weeks despite news of federal staffing cuts to the office that oversees the program. According to the Daily Item, the LIHEAP season for residents to apply for assistance for their home heating bills is now closing for the year on April 18. Those accepted can receive from $200 to $1,000 based on their household size, income, and fuel type with no requirement to pay back the funds. Go to pa.gov/services for information.
CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS EVENT IN SUNBURY
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and there will be an event this month to help raise awareness for the cause. According to North Central PA dot com, Northumberland County Children and Youth Services will host a Child Abuse Prevention Celebration on April 22 at 5:30pm. The event in Sunbury, will help raise awareness to the growing epidemic of child abuse and will be held at the Human Services Building, at 320 and 322 N. 2nd St. the public is invited for, including face painting, crafts, food and games.
MIFFLINBURG MAN AIRLIFTED TO GEISINGER
A serious crash occurred Thursday in Union County that required Life Flight transport. According to the Standard Journal 21-year-old Brock Hare from Mifflinburg was thrown from his 20219 Ford Mustang that overturned and struck a utility pole along Crossroads Drive in in Kelly Township. Emergency crews transported Hare to Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg then flew him by helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Pennsylvania state police, firefighters and EMS from White Deer Township, along with PPL Electric Utilities, Buffalo Valley Communication, CPR Towing and PennDOT were at the site after the crash. Charges of careless driving may be filed by State police pending an investigation.
HOME LESS WOMAN JAILED FOR THEFT IN RENOVO
A 57 year old woman, who is homeless, is facing theft charges in Clinton County. According to North Central PA dot com, an arrest warrant was issued for Lynne Denise Moriarty over an incident on March 3rd in which she allegedly stole over 100 dollars worth of items from a home in Renovo. Moriarty was in court and arraigned April 1st and was jailed at the Clinton County Correctional Facility. Bail for her was set at one thousand dollars and her preliminary hearing is April 8th.
UPCOMING AUCTION AT SLIFER HOUSE IN LEWISBURG
The 19th-century Victorian mansion in Lewisburg, the historic Slifer House and Museum, is scheduled to go to auction May 16th. According to David S. Brown Auction Service, they will hold the event on site starting at 9am. The mansion was once the residence of Colonel Eli Slifer and his family that housed exhibits and memorabilia that told the story of the man and his family, including about his political career, his contributions to the Union cause during the Civil War, and his impact on the local community. The 1861 Italianate mansion, now owned by Albright Care could potentially be demolished, but there are no plans at this time to do so.
