FATHER CHARGED WITH CHILD ENDANGERMENT
A 45 year old man who police say had passed out from intoxication, is facing child endangerment charges after his three year old daughter wandered away from his home on March 29th. According to North Central PA dot com, the toddler walked alone along Arch Street back to the mother’s home. The mother then called police and Troy Duckrey of Williamsport was interviewed by police and taken into custody after he said he fell asleep while watching the child. He is being charged with second-degree felony endangering the welfare of children, and waived his preliminary hearing. He is free on $25,000 unsecured bail.
SUNBURY MAN SENTENCED IN NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY COURT
A Shamokin man was in Northumberland County court Thursday and was found guilty by a jury for aggravated assault, but not guilty for attempted homicide. According to the Standard Journal, 47 year old Adam Patrick Danaher, of Sunbury was accused of stabbing of Patrick Kantane, of Coal Township on January 21st 2022 in Mount Carmel. Kantane suffered injuries that required him to be flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Danaher was also charged with possessing a controlled substance and possessing drug paraphernalia early last week when police went to his home to serve a bench warrant after he missed the jury selection of his trial. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
GOVERNOR AND FAMILY ESCAPED ARSON ATTEMPT
State police evacuated Governor Shapiro and his family early Sunday after someone jumped the fence of the property and attempted to set fire to the governor’s mansion in Harrisburg. According to news outlets, 38-year-old Cody Balmer of Harrisburg was arrested in connection with the arson. The governor and his wife, their four children, two dogs, and extended family were awakened by police who Shapiro thanked Sunday at a press conference outside the home for their quick response. Police say Balmer, will face charges of attempted murder, terrorism, aggravated arson and aggravated assault.
PENN COLLEGE CULINARY STUDENTS HEADING TO DERBY WEEK
About 30 Pennsylvania College of Technology students will be part of the culinary brigade serving guests at Churchill Downs during the 151st running of the famed Kentucky Derby coming up on May 3. The students were interviewed and hired by staff of Levy Restaurants, which provides dining operations at Churchill Downs, for internships at the facility during Derby Week, the event-filled lead-up to the Kentucky Derby. Penn College’s crew will be concentrated in the facility’s VIP venues. The iconic horse race attracts more than 150,000 guests.
TREVORTON COUPLE CHARGED WITH ANIMAL CRUELTY
A couple who formerly lived in Trevorton, have been charged with felony animal cruelty after they left two dogs behind in a West Market St home in early December. According to the Standard Journal, police say neighbors reported that 34 year old Jessica Lynn Rodriguez, and her husband, Julio Rodriguez-Vazquez moved to Pillow and didn’t want to pay the pet fees of the new residence. State police and officials from the PSPCA took control of the animals after filing charges. The Rodriguez’s also face summary charges of cruelty to animals and were arraigned by video last week before being released on their own recognizance. The emaciated dogs have been treated and their conditions have improved.
ILLEGAL ALIEN FOUND IN TIOGA COUNTY
A man from Honduras who was deported from the United states in Texas in 2014 was discovered in Tioga County in February and has been taken into custody. According to an indictment by a federal grand jury on April 8th, 34 year old Misael Garcia-Diaz has been in the U.S. illegally without having first obtained legal permission to reenter the country 11 years ago. Garcia-Diaz has been charged with illegal reentry into the U.S. by a previously deported alien and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
SUNBURY RESIDENTS WITH WARRANTS, FINES HAVE SOME TIME TO PAY
There is a two-week amnesty period being offered by Sunbury police, in conjunction with District Judge Rachel-Wiest Benner, for individuals who have outstanding fines or warrants. According to the Daily Item, Sunbury Police Chief Travis Bremigen said anyone who has outstanding fines or warrants who want to get them cleared needs to visit with the judge’s office and either set up a payment plan, pay off the fine from now through April 23rd. Individuals can go to 399 Stadium Drive, in Sunbury to take care of their case .Names of those who have warrants or owe past fines will be published in the coming days.
LANE RESTRICTIONS THURSDAY ON 220 SOUTH
There will be a lane restriction this Thursday on Route 220 southbound in Piatt Township, Lycoming County, for renewal project due to a previous crash. The contractor, will be performing soil remediation on Route 220 southbound between Pine Run Road and Wagner Road. Motorists can expect the right lane and shoulder to be restricted between the hours of 8am and 5pm, weather permitting. Drivers are asked to watch for slow moving traffic and construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway.
