MONTOURSVILLE MAN CHARGED FOR FELONY FLEEING POLICE
A man from Montoursville who police say led them on a high speed chase from the city of Williamsport to the Woodward Township line and north on Daughtery’s Run Road last August, was in court this week and waived his preliminary hearing. According to the Sun Gazette, Emery Blaint is free on 25 thousand dollars bail after being charged with felony fleeing. Court records say police obtained Blaint’s identity from the license plate of his 2018 Honda Civic. Blaint had also recovered from a critical injury from a DUI motorcycle crash in Armstrong Township off of Jacks Hollow Road in April of 2024.
POLICE SEEK JUSTICE FOR FATALLY WOUNDED KITTEN IN MUNCY
Montoursville State Police have opened an investigation into the shooting of a four month old kitten found in Muncy suffering from its wounds. According to a social media post by Heidi’s furry friends rescue, they were forced to euthanize “Ravioli” due to her serious injuries. State Troopers are seeking information about the incident and say the person responsible may have used a pellet gun to injure the animal. Those interested in the investigation should check any video footage from Carpenter or the surrounding streets in Muncy for any suspicious shooting activity that has occurred within the last week or so. NEW ADMINISTRATION AT WILLIAMSPORT AIRPORT
After a thorough and comprehensive search process, the Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority Chairman has announced a successor to the current Executive Director of the Williamsport Regional Airport Richard C. Howell who will retire this month from the position. According to the Sun Gazette, Eric B. McKitish, Sr. was named as the next Executive Director and Ahmad Nawaz is the new Senior Airport Manager. McKitish, Sr., spent over 35 years at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport in various management and marketing roles. Nawaz, holds multiple undergraduate degrees from CUNY-Brooklyn and a Masters of Science in Aviation Management from CUNY-York. He will relocate to the area from Brooklyn.
WHOLE MILK COULD RETURN TO SCHOOLS
US Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson recently introduced a measure as the chair of the House Agriculture Committee that could bring whole milk back to our schools. According to the Sun Gazette, the “Whole Milk for Healthy Kids” Act modifies current restrictions and permits schools to offer students whole, reduced-fat, low-fat, and fat-free flavored and unflavored milk and garnered bipartisan support in the House. It now will head to the Senate for approval.
MILTON MAN ATTACKS TRUCK DRIVER WITH AXE HANDLE
A Milton man is facing felony aggravated assault charges after he attacked a truck driver with an axe handle after they followed their GPS into an unauthorized dead end area for a delivery on March 28th. According to North Central PA dot com, police say they were called to North Industrial Park Road and Liberty Street when local resident Larry Page was irate and blocked the truck that was attempting to turn around. He damaged the side mirror of the truck and allegedly struck the driver in the face with the axe handle, drawing blood. Police arrested Page and he had a preliminary hearing this week in Northumberland County Court.
STATE PRISON SENTENCE FOR MONROETON MAN
|A Monroeton man has been sentenced to one to four years in state prison for several felony offenses including fleeing from state troopers after a violent domestic incident in June of 2024. According to North Central PA dot com, 28 year old Bryce Hunter Fretz ran from police on a bicycle when they came to his home to serve a warrant. Fretz abandoned the bike along Route 220 and ran into a wooded area where he was eventually found and stopped after police used a taser. The Bradford County District Attorney Richard Wilson said after he is incarcerated at least a year, he will face parole conditions upon release.
BURN BAN REMAINS IN MONTOUR COUNTY
A burn ban is continuing for two more weeks in Montour County. According to the Daily Item, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has recommended the ban continue for the originally allotted time that was set last month on March 25th. County Commissioner Trevor Finn said the board will ask residents in communities for patience to comply with the ban since conditions are such that the ground has not absorbed enough water for burning to be safe even with the recent rain. Neighboring Columbia and Northumberland counties have not enacted any burn bans at this time. Police are expected to actively enforce the ban through April 25th.
SLAUGHTER CHOSEN FOR US MAYOR’S INNOVATION TEAM
Mayor Derek Slaughter will join a dozen other mayors from around the US to participate in the 2025 Mayors Institute on Pedestrian Safety. According to a press release, the Mayors Institute equips local leaders with the tools, expertise, and peer support to make safety improvements on dangerous roadways, creating long-term, systemic change. Mayor Slaughter will participate with the other cohorts over the next 6 months in a mix of virtual and in person programming, alongside national experts addressing critical safety challenges.
