DANVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL THREAT SUSPECT IN CUSTODY
A student who allegedly made the social media threat against the Danville Middle School early Wednesday is in custody. According to the Daily Item, the FBI flagged an online threat around 1:30am yesterday and the Pennsylvania State Police contacted the Danville Police department. The student was then turned over to Montour County Juvenile Probation after an investigation. A search of the school buildings on the property was carried out by the Montour County Sheriff and no threat was reported to be found.
BRADFORD COUNTY CARE-GIVER CHARGED FOR ALLEGED ABUSE
A Bradford County in-home caregiver is facing charges after a family member of a care-dependent person discovered evidence of abuse last summer. According to North Central PA dot com, 43 year old Pamela J. Klecha was allegedly seen on surveillance camera causing distress to her disabled patient during her time hired as an overnight nurse for the family. Klecha was charged with subjecting a care-dependent person to physical contact and harassment on March 31 and she has a preliminary hearing April 22nd.
ANNUAL DEER HARVEST TOTALS
The estimated harvest numbers for deer in Pennsylvania have been announced by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. According to a press release, the statewide 2024-25 harvest numbers are up by 47,000 with an estimated total of 476,880 deer. That number includes over 175 thousand antlered deer and over 301 thousand antlerless. The agency reports that it’s the highest success rate since at least the late 1980s. The increase in antlerless deer kills was part of the Game Commission’s management strategy to manage Chronic Wasting disease in certain WMDs. The overall harvest increase was mostly antlerless deer as those numbers are 9% higher than the three-year average.
STATE MUSHROOM BILL BEING PREPARED
A Pennsylvania Lawmaker in Allegheny County is seeking co-sponsors to introduce a bill naming the hemlock varnish shelf fungus as the Pennsylvania state mushroom. According to North Central PA dot com, State Rep. Mandy Steele, 33rd District says the native fungus is most typically found on the state tree – the eastern hemlock. Pennsylvania is known as the mushroom capital of the world, with 60% of all farm-grown mushrooms in the US coming from Kennett Township, Chester County. A bill about this issue has yet to be formally introduced to the PA House.
SUNBURY MAN ARRESTED FOR FIREARM WITHOUT A LICENSE
Sunbury Police arrested a man for having a gun with an altered serial number on the night of March 18. According to North Central PA dot com, 20 year old Tyler Tegge was approached by officers while in an unauthorized parking lot and consented to a search of the car. Police alleged Tegge seemed lethargic when they asked him to exit the car before they found a black holster on the driver’s side floor with a silver H&R .32 caliber revolver with five rounds in it. Tegge was charged with felony counts of possession of an altered firearm with manufacturer number altered and firearms not to be carried without a license. He posted 50 thousand dollars bail.
FALSE STATEMENTS ON GUN APPLICATIONS NAB TWO
Two area men were charged with a felony for using false information while attempting to purchase a firearm. According to the Sun Gazette, 66 year old William James Kline of Jersey Shore was caught trying to make a handgun purchase at a business in South Williamsport in October. Similar charges have been filed for 40 year old Keith Ian McLaughlin also of Jersey Shore who attempted to purchase a gun at a store on Allegheny Street after allegedly submitting a government form with inaccurate information. Both men waived their preliminary hearings and are free on bail.
TURBOTVILLE PLAYGROUND DAMAGE
The Turbotville Borough Council has closed the fenced-in Turbotville playground near the Community Hall after reports of vandalism. According to the Daily Item, state police were called to the property March 20th and reported extensive damage, the cost of which has not yet been estimated. The insurance claim process has begun to repair the damage. Police are investigating the incident but have not yet named any suspects.
CUTTERS STILL LOOKING FOR HOST FAMILIES
The Williamsport Crosscutters are still looking for host families to add to their roster for the 2025 season.
