SUSPENDED TEACHER FACING NEW CHARGES FROM WASD SCHOOL BOARD
A suspended high school teacher, who was charged for sexual misconduct in three criminal cases but was cleared, is facing new disciplinary action from the Williamsport Area School Board. According to PennLive, 46 year old Christopher P. Yoder was accused of several incidents of alleged misconduct through inappropriate sexual relationships with several female students for some years before 2021 but was acquitted in court in two cases and charges were dismissed in a third case. The Williamsport area school board has now charged Yoder, who has been a teacher in Williamsport since 2007, with failing to comply with the school laws of Pennsylvania. In a statement, the district states that if Yoder doesn’t contest the accusations, he faces termination. Yoder, through his attorney, has denied the charges.
MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT AND STRANGULATION
A Williamsport man was taken into custody after he strangled a woman over a rent payment on March 5. According to North Central dot com, 36 year old Tyran Shareef Fisher allegedly choked the woman for over 10 seconds but then released her and fled the scene after she spit on him. Police investigated and apprehended Fisher who was charged and committed to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of 50 thousand dollars monetary bail.
SETTLEMENT REACHED BETWEEN LYCO EMPLOYEE AND COMMISSIONERS
A settlement between a former Lycoming County human resources director and Lycoming County Commissioners was reached in US Middle District Court this week. According to the Sun Gazette, court records say Jessica Seagraves filed an action in federal court against Commissioner Scott L. Metzger and former Commissioners Tony R. Mussare and Rick Mirabito, claiming with no disciplinary history, she was terminated with no notice over use of approved family medical leave. Seagraves had been working in the HR position since January of 2022 and was terminated on August 11, 2023. She sought wages and benefits, loss of future wages and benefits, damages for her emotional distress, payment of medical bills, as well as attorney fees and costs. Terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.
LOCAL STUDENT HEADS TO “AMERICAN IDOL”
A South Williamsport graduate will be a contestant on the upcoming season of “American Idol” after she has successfully auditioned for a spot on the show. According to the Sun Gazette, after high school graduation in 2019, Penny Samar, whose real name is Christine, earned a degree from West Chester University as a studio composition major and started the process to be a part of the television competition show. Samar’s progress will be documented on her social media pages and her debut will air this Sunday night at 8p on ABC.
MAN ARRESTED AFTER RESISTING ARREST
A Williamsport man who ignored commands from city officers when they discovered him smoking marijuana behind the wheel of a vehicle on February 27th . According to police records, 20 year old Nafis Amir Daniels was sitting inside a silver Buick when officers approached him, observed marijuana in the console, and attempted to detain him he tried to punch an officer and fled the scene. Daniels headed to North and First Avenues but then decided to stop and fight with officers who subdued him and took him into custody. Daniels is being charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest and more and is awaiting a formal arraignment with bail set at 75 thousand dollars.
CALIFORNIA MAN CHARGED WITH SEX ASSAULT OF MINOR IN PA
A man from California who police discovered came to Williamsport to have sex with a 14 year old was arrested at the Philadelphia Airport as he attempted to leave the state. According to Pennsylvania state police, the mother of the teenager involved called them to have help locating her daughter this week who she said had been talking to a 28 year old man through social media. When police located the girl and questioned her, she admitted to the act with the suspect at the Hampton Inn. After obtaining a search warrant for the hotel room, an arrest warrant was issued for Marvin Isaac Dagoc. After his arrest in Philadelphia, he was returned to Williamsport and arraigned, denied bail and incarcerated at Lycoming County Prison.
PSP HELICOPTER TO LAND IN LOCK HAVEN FOR PRESENTATION
A unique presentation about the work of the PSP aviation unit will take place on the CU-Lock Haven campus Thursday, March 27, at noon. According to a press release, Pennsylvania State Police in collaboration with the university will host a helicopter landing, providing the public with a look into their operations and the essential role it plays in law enforcement and public safety. The event, which is free and open to the public, will happen in parking area 8, the upper lot behind the Zimmerli Gymnasium.
TEA PARTY FOR THE LIBRARY IN MIFFLINBURG
The public can reserve a time for tea in Mifflinburg and help the local library in April. According to the Herr Memorial Library, the public is invited to their Jane Austen Tea Party at Helix Hall on North Fourth Street in Mifflinburg. Participants can help raise funds and reserve a 90 minute seating between 1 and 7pm April 17th.
