ALLEGED SHOOTER OF WILLIAMSPORT TEEN WILL STAND TRIAL
The man accused of shooting 15 year old Ahmeen Palmer at TGI Friday in Loyalsock Township last March, had a preliminary hearing Monday in Williamsport and will stand trial. According to the Sun Gazette, Ja’hsir Legare faces charges of criminal homicide, aggravated assault, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm without a license, recklessly endangering another person and more but a trial date has not yet been set. The Lycoming County District Attorney called the suspect’s mother, 42 year old Johneice Legare, to testify on behalf of the prosecution, describing her involvement in the incident in which her 13-year-old son and his friends allegedly got in a verbal altercation with Palmer and his friends. Palmer was shot three times and was pronounced dead at 8pm that night at UPMC Williamsport.
MAN GREW MUSHROOMS IN CHILD’S ROOM
A man growing psilocybin mushrooms in his West Milton home has been handed felony drug charges after a family member called police to report the crime. According to North Central PA dot com, police obtained a search warrant for 34 year old Jonathan Robert Finan and found the grow operation in two bedrooms of the home, one of which was a child’s. Finan admitted to police that he grew the mushroom to treat certain issues. His bail was set at 15 thousand dollars and his preliminary hearing in Union County is April 3rd.
DEMOLITION IN WILLIAMSPORT MAKES WAY FOR PARKING
Williamsport City Council has approved the demolition permit with conditions for a building at 351 Market Street in order to create new parking for a downtown restaurant and bar. According to city officials, a structural analysis is required prior to the demolition and the building owner is in the process of hiring an engineer. The space will be blocked to prevent vehicles from using it until the parking lot is constructed following a land development plan is reviewed.
CROSSCUTTERS LOOKING FOR ANTHEM SINGERS
The Williamsport Crosscutters are taking online submissions for National Anthem performers for the 2025 season. According to a press release, any performer interested in being selected for the upcoming draft league season should fill out an application and submit a video or link to a YouTube, X/Twitter or Facebook post of a 90 seconds or less of the Star Spangled banner ACapella. TWO WOMEN CHARGED FOR 2 YEAR OLD OVERDOSE OF CANNABIS
Two Hughesville women are facing child endangerment charges after a 2 year old was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Geisinger Danville for an overdose of cannabis gummies. According to the Sun Gazette, the grandmother of the child, 45 year old Megan Elizabeth Bellott, was watching the child in February and during an interview, told police that she didn’t know how the child had gotten the drug and said she didn’t know the where the drugs were prior to the incident. The child’s mother, 24-year-old Arianna Aleise Sones, returned home from work after being texted about the medical emergency. Police say they found a dirty house with cannabis packages in the trash. Hospital officials say the child’s symptoms were consistent with other children who consumed the drug. Bellott was incarcerated at Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail, while Sones was released on $20,000 bail.
VOLUNTEER CHARGED FOR SENDING LEWD TEXTS TO TEEN
A man who is a member of the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department is accused of sending lewd messages to a 14 year old junior firefighter and after he was blocked by her on social media, to one of her friends at the beginning in January. Police say they reviewed 5 messages deemed inappropriate that were sent by 23 year old Austin Mickel Diehl of Mifflinburg to the two victims that included a selfie of him in Montgomery fire company gear with text over the image. Diehl posted 5 thousand dollars bail.
PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY TO LAYOFF 163 EMPLOYEES
One of the Country’s largest employers, Merck will start its first round of 163 layoffs in May at their in Northumberland County plant. According to the Daily Item, a WARN Notice filed with the state’s Department of Labor and Industry says three rounds of layoffs are planned at its Cherokee manufacturing site through 2026. Officials at Merck did not say whether other plants in Pennsylvania will be affected by layoffs later this year. Merck’s U.S. headquarters are in Rahway, New Jersey. A separate site in Montgomery County serves as the headquarters for Merck’s U.S. Human Health Division.
CEMETERY TOUR COIMING TO LEWISBURG
The public is invited to a one-hour cemetery tour in Lewisburg in May. According to the News Item, the tour will explore the history behind local landmarks and place names, connecting them to the prominent individuals laid to rest in the cemetery. Organizers at the Lewisburg Cemetery Association hope the new tour “Local Connections” is as successful as the previous tour called “Stories and Stone,” which focused on the art and architecture of tombstones within the cemetery. The tour is free to attend, but donations are welcome to support the upkeep of the cemetery.
