FATAL CRASH ON ROUTE 220 MONDAY
A man from Illinois was the victim in the fatal crash that happened on Route 220 North near Jersey Shore Monday evening. According to the Lycoming County Coroner, 38 year old Michael Kurelja was driving his Subaru Forester, and was struck head-on by another motorist in a Mercedes ML350 who went further southbound in the northbound lane striking another car and rolling onto its roof, catching on fire. Police say that unnamed driver escaped the Mercedes and fled on foot and was struck by possibly two more cars. She was transported to the Trauma Center at UPMC. An autopsy is scheduled for Kurelja this morning, and an investigation into the crash continues.
TEEN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY THREATENING SCHOOL
A young adult from Dornsife was in court this week after he was charged with felony counts of terroristic threats and criminal use of a communication facility after he participated in a group chat saying he would shoot up his school. According to State police at Stonington, 18-year-old Braxton Michael Morey was jailed at Northumberland County Prison in lieu of 75 thousand dollars bail following a police investigation into his texts February 3rd regarding Line Mountain School District. When police went to Morey’s home, he said it was a joke and that he didn’t own a firearm. Morey was taken into custody
REAL ID DEADLINE LOOMING
May 7th is approaching, the day REAL-IDs will be required to fly domestically or enter federal buildings in Pennsylvania (with social security buildings and jury duty facilities exempt). According to Triple A, an upgrade to a REAL ID is $30 with a renewal fee at $39.50 for a standard non-commercial driver’s license. Residents who received their first driver’s licenses after 2003 can pre-verify for REAL ID by visiting pa.gov under agencies.
THERAPY CENTER SEEKING VOLUNTEERS
Sunny Brook Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center in Montgomery is seeking volunteers and is holding a training program next month for all ages – those 12 and under must be with an adult. According to North Central PA dot com, the stable, located at 426 State Home Road will hold the training March 15th from 1pm until 3pm with no experience or registration necessary. The Christ-centered organization is dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities through therapeutic horseback riding and other related activities and will introduce the areas where volunteers can help during the program. ARREST FOR MAN WHO THREATENED WOMAN WITH A RIFLE
A man from Union County is facing charges after he threatened a woman with a rifle in Buffalo Township during a domestic disturbance February 6th. According to North Central PA dot com, police say the victim’s son was in the home at the time of the disturbance and wrestled the rifle away from 53-year-old Christopher S. Mullany who also threatened to kill himself at the time. Mullany fled the scene on foot and was caught and charged with felony terroristic threats, two counts misdemeanor simple assault, and summary harassment. Police recovered the weapon and found it unloaded. He is now in custody in lieu of 15 thousand dollars bail with a preliminary hearing on February 25th
GRANVILLE SUMMIT MAN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT
A 71 year old man from Bradford County is likely to spend the rest of his life behind bars after being sentenced to 10 to 32 years in jail for sexual assault of a 7 year –old. According to WETM, Richard Gilliland Sr. of Granville Summit was found guilty of multiple felony counts of indecent assault and corruption of minors in July. The 7 year-old in the case reported to state police during an investigation that Gilliland touched her inappropriately. According to the Bradford County DA, the motions were filed to reduce his sentence but were denied by the court.
FLEMINGTON BUSINESS COLLECTING FOR DISPLACED FAMILY
Flemington residents and an area business are collecting and storing donations to help the family who lost their home and possessions February 9th in a house fire at 209 High St in which 18 year-old Alissa Demanno also lost her life. According to North Central PA dot com, 37 year old Teresa Meadows and her young adult children Nathan and Jaime escaped the blaze but were displaced and are now residing in a hotel. Rachael’s Dance Unlimited in Flemington is collecting donations of clothing, furniture and non-perishable foods at 527 Sturdevant Street during business hours. CAMP CADET FUNDRAISER IN LEWISBURG
There will be a restaurant fundraiser tonight in Lewisburg to help support Camp Cadet, a law enforcement camp for kids in north central PA. According to apress release, Pennsylvania State troopers say they will hold Celebrity Service Night from 5pm to 9pm at the Applebee’s in Lewisburg. Tips collected go directly to support the camp, which is fully funded by donations. A $10 tip will also earn a coupon for a future visit to the restaurant.
