FATAL ACCIDENT AT LYCO-NORRY LINE
There was a fatal accident yesterday afternoon on Route 405 at the Lycoming-Northumberland County line. According to the Sun Gazette, state police say the one car accident occurred about 2:45pm when the male driver from the Shamokin area, who was not wearing a seatbelt, veered off the road and went through a yard before going over an embankment and landing on the car’s roof. After emergency responders arrived, they recovered the victim who had been partially ejected from the car and took him to the Forensic Center at UPMC Williamsport. The Lycoming County Coroner, Charles E. Kiessling Jr, was on the scene and said they are seeking to notify family members of the victim before they release the man’s identity. Montgomery, Clinton Township, Warrior Run Area and Muncy Area also responded to the crash scene.
TWO ARRESTED FOR ID THEFT IN SELINSGROVE
Two people from Allentown are accused of using a stolen credit card in Selinsgrove to purchase 5 thousand dollars worth of hot water heaters, copper wire and flooring from the local Lowe’s store in November. According to the Daily Item, Luis Bueno and Berenice Lantigua were seen on surveillance video making purchases and then again a few days later at another Lowes in Carbon County where they were confronted by loss prevention officers. Both are jailed and charged with theft by deception and identity theft.
STATE FUNDING FOR RAIL IMPROVEMENTS IN PA
PennDOT has announced 55 million dollars in funding for 30 rail freight improvement projects statewide. According to a press release, rail projects in Northumberland and Schuylkill counties are receiving funds. North Shore Railroad will receive $1.8 million to rehabilitate its mainline, and Clark’s Feed Mills will get $2.5 million to expand railcar storage and construct unloading equipment. In addition, over 600 thousand dollars are for rail projects in Schuylkill County. The funds are set to enhance infrastructure, support local economies, and improve connections across Pennsylvania’s rail network.
BEAR HARVEST NUMBERS
The Pennsylvania Game Commission’s revealed their preliminary bear harvest information on their data webpage this week. Hunters in the Commonwealth took more than 2,600 black bears this fall. The heaviest bear this year weighed 774 pounds and was harvested by Scott Price of Madison Township, Lackawanna County, while hunting in Monroe County. Bear totals per county include 161 in Tioga, 156 in Clinton, 148 in Lycoming, 131 in Bradford and 108 in Potter.
TEN YEAR OLD MISSING IN SUNBURY SAFELY FOUND
A 10-year-old boy who was reported missing has been found in Sunbury. The Daily Item reports the boy left his home on North 11th Street in Sunbury on Thursday night and police were searching for him early this morning. Emergency dispatchers say the boy has been located. Sunbury police were assisted by several police departments in that search.
FLORIDA TRUCK DRIVER DIES IN I-80 CRASH
A truck driver from Florida died in a crash on I-80 in Clinton County December 14th. According to North Central PA dot com, 54 year old Lloyd Petri was traveling west on the interstate when his truck struck the crash cushion of the guide rail at mile marker 192 in Greene Township. About 30 years of the rail were destroyed by the truck as it continued along the interstate about 30 feet and came to a stop aftert overturning on the median. Petri sustained fatal injuries in the crash and EMS crews who responded to the scene were rendered unnecessary.
TRIAL CONTINUED FOR MAN WHO STOLE DATA FROM GEISINGER
A man who was indicted for illegally accessing personal data of 1.28 million Geisinger patients last January had his trial continued by Chief U.S. District Judge Matthew Brann. According to the News Item, Max Vance, also known as Andre J. Burk, also has arrest warrants and a restraining order issued against him in South Carolina, and police say he previously had possession of a ghost gun, numerous fake IDs and a machine to make them. Geisinger said no insurance information, credit card or bank account numbers, or Social Security numbers were inappropriately accessed by Vance, however, the hospital system, along with another defendant, are being sued in a class action suit as a result of the breach of other forms of personal data.
FREE CONCEALED CARRY COURSE IN DANVILLE
There will be a firearms safety and concealed carry seminar next week in Danville hosted by the Montour County Sheriff’s Office. According to the Daily Item, the event is open to the public, not just Montour County residents and is free to attend. Topics discussed will include carrying, storage, proper holster choices and more. The seminar will be held at 5:30pm December 27th in conference room B at the Montour County Administration Center on East Front Street in Danville.
