POLICE INVESTIGATE TRAILER FIRE IN CASTENEA TOWNSHIP

Mill Hall Borough Police and state fire investigators are looking into a fatal trailer fire that happened October 21st in Castenea Township.  According to the Sun Gazette, the Clinton County Coroner released a statement about the victim in the fire at 200 E. Keller St, saying Mrs. Barbara Hummer and two pets perished in the fire that was fully engulfed when fire crews arrived on the scene noon on Monday.  State Police fire officials are asking for information from anyone who witnessed the fire or who may have been in the area when the fire started.  Call 570-726-4597 if you have information.Bottom of Form

MANURE SPILL CLOSES LANE OF I-180 WEST

A manure spill on I-180 west in Montoursville closed one lane of travel yesterday afternoon for about an hour.  According to the Sun Gazette, PennDOT plows were called in to clean up a load of manure that spilled from an unknown truck hauling the fertilizer at about 2:30pm near the Route 87 interchange, east of Indian Park.  Montoursville fire and fire police were on the scene assisting with traffic control where witnesses say there was a strong smell from the spill.

FUNDING FOR PA SCHOOLS AND MUNICIPALITIES THANKS TO CFA

An announcement of the approval of millions of dollars in state funding for Lycoming and Union Counties was released today after the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) meeting in Harrisburg this week.  According to State Sen. Gene Yaw, work done alongside State Rep. Joe Hamm and State Rep. Jamie Flick has brought about funding for the Jersey Shore Area School District and the South Williamsport Area School District through the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program for infrastructure upgrades to the schools’ HVAC systems, ADA accessibility and energy savings project. Other municipalities who received state funds through the Local Share Account (LSA) Statewide program includetheMontgomery and Williamsport Water Authorities, and other groups.  Funds allocated for White Deer Township in Union County will be used for Community Park Roof Repair and ADA Upgrades.

LEWISBURG HALLOWEEN EVENT

Halloween events are happening in downtown Lewisburg this Saturday.  According to the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership there will be a costume party on Market Street from 11 til 2 with local shops participating in a day-time trick or treat event.  There will be a livestream of costumed participants walking the orange carpet in front of the Campus Theater.  The free “Market Street Mask-a-Rade” sponsored by Geisinger and Weis Markets, also features entertainment and a magic show.  Find out more at lewisburgpa dot com.

BOALSBURG MAN ARRESTED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A MINOR

A man from Boalsburg was taken into custody in early October for multiple sexual assault-related felonies against children.  According to the Lock Haven Express, Mill Hall police investigated 35 year old Colton Clifford Isenberg after parents of a minor child filed a complaint and found that the man had sent nude photos of himself to a minor under 16 years of age and allege that he had a sexual relationship from last June through September.  Isenburg faces 25 felony counts of assault, corruption of minors and others is being held in the Clinton County Correctional Facility in lieu of 500 thousand dollars bail.  He has a formal arraignment November 19th.

FIRE ALARM TURNS OUT TO BE FALSE AT DANVILLE

There was a fire alarm on Monday morning at Danville Area High School that turned out to be a false alarm.  According to the Daily Item, school administrators said students and staff evacuated the building when the alarm went off at about 9:50am.  Fire crews reported to the school and checked the premises for fire or smoke and found none.  After officials started the investigation into how the alarm was tripped, they cleared the building and allowed everyone back in.

NEW PROGRAM FOR DISABLED TO EARN A SECURE WAGE

Residents of Pennsylvania with disabilities can take advantage of a new state program to obtain competitive jobs.  According to the PA Dept. of Labor & Industry their new program through the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation will be able to help those working in sheltered workshops for subminimum wage obtain competitive, integrated employment and build fulfilling careers.  Sheetz Inc. is the first Pennsylvania employer to commit to the 14 million federal grant project. The company plans to hire up to 10 individuals annually and retain all previously-hired individuals.  Pennsylvania is among 14 states to receive federal Department of Education grants.

PHEASANT SEASON STARTS SATURDAY

When PA’s antlerless muzzleloader season ends this Saturday, pheasant hunting season will begin in the state. The Pennsylvania Game Commission released over 240 thousand pheasants throughout the season and pheasant stocking information is available at Pgc.pa.gov.  Pheasant hunters must have a pheasant permit that can be purchased online at huntfish.pa.gov or in-store at issuing agents. The Game Commission reminds hunters that an orange hat and vest meet the requirement to wear 250 square inches of fluorescent orange that is visible from 360 degrees.
